White Rock Pier & Promenade - British Columbia, Canada
This camera looks east along the White Rock waterfront, showing the promenade, the 470-metre pier stretching out into Semiahmoo Bay, and the beachfront strip of cafés and restaurants along Marine Drive. The pier is one of the longest in Canada and a focal point for the community year-round.
White Rock sits on the shore of Semiahmoo Bay in the South Surrey area, just metres from the US border with Washington State. On clear days the San Juan Islands are visible across the water to the south-west.
The promenade is busy with walkers, cyclists, and diners throughout the day, and the pier attracts anglers and strollers in all seasons.
Did You Know? White Rock takes its name from a large white boulder on the beach below the pier, which local Semiahmoo First Nations legend says was thrown there by a young sea creature to mark the spot where he and his love would settle. The rock is painted white by the city each year to maintain its distinctive appearance.
