Nationwide Views - Slovakia
This rolling stream moves between cameras across Slovakia (Slovensko), from the town of Martin and the mountain village of Terchová to ski slopes, forested valleys and the foothills of the Tatras.
The Carpathian Mountains cover most of northern Slovakia, and about 41 percent of the country is forest. The High Tatras are the tallest range in the Carpathians, topped by Gerlachovský štít at 8,711 feet (2,655 m).
Slovakia has hundreds of caves, around 30 of them open to visitors. It became an independent country on January 1, 1993, when Czechoslovakia peacefully split in two, and today about 5.4 million people live here.
Did You Know? Terchová, one of the stops on this stream, is the birthplace of Juraj Jánošík, a legendary highwayman said to have robbed the rich and given to the poor.
