France 24 English Live - Paris, France
France 24 English is the English language service of France's international public news broadcaster, transmitting live 24 hours a day from its studios in Issy-les-Moulineaux, on the outskirts of Paris. Launched in December 2006, it was created to give France a stronger voice in international English language media, presenting world news and current affairs from a distinctly French and European perspective.
The channel reaches a global audience across more than 180 countries via satellite, cable, and online streaming, competing directly with BBC World News, CNN International, and Al Jazeera English for the attention of international English speaking news audiences. Its Paris base gives it a natural focus on European politics and affairs alongside its broader global coverage.
France 24 English is funded by the French state through France Médias Monde and operates alongside its Arabic and French sister channels from the same production facility, making it one of the most compact multilingual broadcasting operations of any major international news network.
Did You Know? France 24 was born out of a long running political debate in France about the dominance of Anglo-American news channels globally. The idea was first proposed in 1987 but took nearly two decades to actually launch, finally going on air in 2006 after years of arguments about funding and editorial independence.
