Snowman Wildlife Cam - Gaylord, Michigan, USA

In the woods near Gaylord, in northern Michigan, a wooden snowman keeps watch over a feeding bench, changing his outfit with the seasons, with a concrete goose for company. The seed scattered across the bench brings in a whole parade of wild visitors.

Whitetail deer and wild turkeys are regulars, along with blue jays and woodpeckers during the day, and foxes, raccoons, porcupines, coyotes and even black bears turn up at different times of year.

The cam is at its most famous in winter, when deep snow piles up on the bench and the snowman gets bundled up for the cold. The thermometer on the tree shows just how cold it gets, and winter nights here often drop below 0°F (-18°C).

Did You Know? Northern Michigan is home to flying squirrels, which are common but rarely seen because they only come out at night. They don’t truly fly. Instead they glide between trees on a flap of skin stretched between their front and back legs.
