Auckland Sky Tower & Harbour - Auckland, New Zealand
This camera is positioned on the North Shore looking south across the Waitematā Harbour towards the Auckland CBD, with the Sky Tower rising clearly above the city skyline. The waterfront, ferry terminal, and Viaduct Harbour are visible along the shoreline, with Harbour Bridge traffic crossing to the left on clear days.
Auckland is built across a narrow isthmus between two harbours and sits on a volcanic field of around 53 cones, making it one of the most geologically unusual cities on earth. The Sky Tower stands 328 metres tall and remains the tallest freestanding structure in the Southern Hemisphere.
The view shifts noticeably through the day, from the morning harbour activity of ferries and container ships to the illuminated skyline after dark.
Did You Know? Auckland sits on the Auckland Volcanic Field, which contains 53 volcanoes, most of them extinct but the field itself considered still active. The last eruption occurred around 600 years ago at Rangitoto Island, visible from the harbour on clear days, and geologists consider another eruption somewhere in the field a matter of when rather than if.
