Brasov City - Transylvania, Romania
This PTZ live camera sits at the Ceasu Rau intersection in Brasov, panning across the city rooftops with Tampa Mountain rising 960 metres directly behind the historic centre. Brasov is the largest city in Transylvania with a population of 250,000 and sits at an elevation of 600 metres in a valley surrounded by the Carpathian Mountains, making it one of the highest-altitude cities of its size in Romania.
The wooded Tampa Mountain visible dominating the background has the word BRASOV spelled out in large white letters near its summit, a deliberate reference to the Hollywood sign, and is accessible via cable car from the city centre below. The old city of Brasov, partially visible in this feed, contains one of the best-preserved medieval Saxon centres in Eastern Europe, including the Black Church, the largest Gothic church in Romania, built between 1383 and 1477.
Brasov sits 166 kilometres north of Bucharest and serves as the main gateway to both the ski resorts of Poiana Brasov and the castle circuit including Bran and Rasnov, drawing over 1 million tourists annually. The city was founded by Teutonic Knights in 1211 under the name Kronstadt and retains significant German-influenced architecture throughout its historic centre.
Did You Know? Brasov's Tampa Mountain carries the city name in large white letters inspired by the Hollywood sign, visible from across the city and from this camera, making it one of the few European cities to have replicated the landmark.
