Downtown Winter Garden - FL, USA
This live camera from the Winter Garden Heritage Foundation looks west along Plant Street towards the iconic brick clock tower gateway that marks the entrance to downtown Winter Garden, a historic citrus town 16 miles west of Orlando in Orange County. The cobblestone street visible in frame is part of a downtown district that sits along the West Orange Trail, a 22-mile paved cycling and walking trail built on a former railway corridor that runs through the heart of the city.
Winter Garden was one of Florida's most productive citrus growing regions through the early 20th century, shipping oranges across the country via the Plant System railway until a series of freezes in the 1980s effectively ended commercial citrus farming in the area. The Central Florida Railroad Museum, located one block from this camera, is housed in the original 1913 Tavares and Gulf Railroad depot and holds one of the largest collections of railroad artefacts in Florida.
Every Saturday from 8am to 1pm the cobblestone area in front of this camera fills with the Winter Garden Farmers Market, consistently rated one of the best farmers markets in Florida with over 100 vendors operating weekly. The white water tower visible in the upper left background is one of Winter Garden's most recognisable landmarks, dating from the city's early municipal infrastructure period.
Did You Know? The West Orange Trail running through Winter Garden was built on the old railway corridor that once carried Florida citrus harvests north, converting 22 miles of former freight track into one of Central Florida's most used recreational trails.
