Grand Teton - Moose, Wyoming, USA
The jagged peaks of the Teton Range rise straight out of the sagebrush flats behind the Craig Thomas Discovery and Visitor Center in Moose, Wyoming, with cottonwoods and spruce lining the Snake River below. The tallest summit, the Grand Teton, towers 13,775 feet (4,199 m) above sea level.
With no foothills in front of them, the Tetons climb more than 7,000 feet (2,130 m) above the valley floor of Jackson Hole, which makes them one of the most dramatic mountain fronts in North America. Fresh snow often dusts the peaks from autumn into early summer.
Moose, elk, bison and pronghorn graze the flats around Moose, and bald eagles and ospreys hunt along the river. The town of Jackson lies about 12 miles (19 km) to the south, and you can watch its famous antler arches on our Jackson Hole Town Square cam.
Did You Know? The Tetons are among the youngest mountains in the Rockies, pushed up by a fault in less than 10 million years, and the land is still slowly rising today.
