Tokyo Bay & Rainbow Bridge - Minato, Tokyo, Japan

From above Odaiba, this camera looks out over Tokyo Bay (東京湾) to the white towers of the Rainbow Bridge (レインボーブリッジ) and the city skyline stretching across the water, with a relaxing soundtrack playing over the view.

Ships, ferries and water buses cross the bay while traffic loops down the bridge's curling approach road, and on a clear day the Tokyo Skytree stands out on the skyline.

Some of the boats are yakatabune, wooden party boats with paper lanterns along the roof, which still take groups out on the bay for dinner, a custom that goes back to the Edo period. In the evening the bridge and towers light up over the dark water.

Did You Know? Odaiba gets its name from “daiba,” the cannon batteries built on small man-made islands here in the 1850s to protect the city from foreign warships.
