Tokyo Bay & Rainbow Bridge - Minato, Tokyo, Japan
From an elevated position above Odaiba, this camera takes in one of the most dramatic urban panoramas in Asia - the full sweep of Tokyo Bay, the looping Rainbow Bridge approach road spiralling down to the waterfront, and the towers of central Tokyo rising across the water in every direction. The Tokyo Skytree is visible on the right side of the skyline on clear days.
Tokyo is the largest metropolitan area on earth, home to around 37 million people, and the bay view captures the scale of the city in a way that street-level cameras cannot. Cargo vessels, ferries, and pleasure craft move constantly across the water, with the port infrastructure of Shinonome and Shinkiba visible along the far shore.
The feed plays lofi and soft jazz alongside the live view, and with live temperature displayed in the corner it doubles as a useful weather check for anyone planning a visit.
Did You Know? Much of the land visible around Tokyo Bay, including the Odaiba area where this camera is positioned, is entirely artificial. Odaiba was built on reclaimed land originally constructed as defensive gun battery islands in the 1850s, and large-scale land reclamation in the bay has continued ever since, adding hundreds of square kilometres to Tokyo's footprint over the past 150 years.
