Waycross Rail Diamond - GA, USA
This Virtual Railfan PTZ camera is hosted by the Downtown Waycross Development Authority at the historic depot, covering the Waycross Diamond where three CSX subdivisions converge: the Jesup, Fitzgerald, and Thomasville, all former Atlantic Coast Line Railroad routes. A diamond junction of this complexity, where three active freight subdivisions cross at a single point, is rare on the US rail network and makes Waycross one of the most watched railfan locations in the south-east.
CSX's Rice Yard, one of the largest classification yards in the south-eastern United States, sits adjacent to this junction and is visible in the background of this feed. Rice Yard serves as a major locomotive servicing facility and sorts freight between the three subdivisions, generating a constant flow of intermodal, manifest, and autorack trains through the diamond throughout the day and night.
Waycross sits in Ware County in southern Georgia, 100 miles north-west of Jacksonville, Florida, and takes its name from its position at the crossing point of several early railway lines, with rail having defined the town's entire economic identity since its founding in 1874. The camera launched on 15 April 2024 and a second Diamond Camera is hosted by Boswell Oil Co. for members.
Did You Know? Waycross takes its name directly from being at the crossing point of multiple railway lines, making it one of the few towns in the United States whose name is a literal description of its rail geography.
