Bourbon Street Balcony View - New Orleans, Louisiana, USA

From a balcony above Bourbon Street, in the French Quarter of New Orleans, this camera looks down on the crowds, neon signs and music spilling out of the bars below, as one of America's most famous party streets comes alive at night.

In 1970, Mayor Moon Landrieu turned Bourbon Street into a pedestrian mall, so for much of the day and night people stroll down the middle of the road with drinks in hand. The street is fairly quiet by day and busiest after dark.

Its biggest party is Mardi Gras, the Quarter's most famous festival, when thousands of people pack the streets and balconies like this one become prime spots for watching the crowds below.
