Beach and Fishing Pier - Deerfield Beach, Florida, USA
Set just south of the Deerfield Beach International Fishing Pier in Broward County, Florida, this camera looks across the pier and the Atlantic, then pans south along a shore that fills with swimmers and sunbathers by midday.
The pier stretches 976 feet (297 meters) out to sea and draws anglers and sightseers from early morning until late at night. The first wooden pier was built here in 1952, and storms such as Hurricane Irma have since battered it more than once.
Long before the beach crowds, the town began as a farming settlement on the Hillsboro River, named Deerfield for the deer that grazed along its banks. Today, during nesting season, sea turtles haul themselves up this sand to lay their eggs.
Did You Know? The town was known simply as Deerfield until 1939, when it added “Beach” to its name to let tourists know it had one.
