Moon Jellyfish Exhibit - Monterey Bay Aquarium, CA, USA

Ghostly moon jellies drift and pulse through a glowing blue tank at Monterey Bay Aquarium, on the edge of California's Monterey Bay. Their round exhibit keeps a gentle current flowing, so the jellies keep floating instead of settling on the glass.

For something so graceful, a moon jelly is remarkably simple, with no brain, no heart and no bones. It just pulses its bell to steer while a fringe of fine stinging tentacles catches tiny plankton.

The four pale rings in the center of each bell are its reproductive organs, and they can change color depending on what the jelly has been eating. Moon jellies live in coastal waters around much of the world. The cam is live during the aquarium's daytime hours.

Did You Know? A moon jelly is about 95 percent water. It has just one opening for eating and getting rid of waste.
