Downtown Telluride - Colorado, USA

Colorado Avenue runs through the heart of Telluride, an old mining town tucked into a box canyon in the San Juan Mountains of southwest Colorado, with steep forested slopes and cliffs rising on every side.

The town sits at about 8,750 feet (2,668 m) and began as a silver mining camp, and much of it is now a National Historic Landmark district. At the head of the canyon, Bridal Veil Falls pours down the cliffs.

A free gondola links the town with Mountain Village and the ski slopes above, the only free gondola of its kind in North America, and in summer Telluride fills up for its film and music festivals.

Did You Know? In June 1889, Butch Cassidy robbed the San Miguel Valley Bank in Telluride and got away with $24,580. The town is named after tellurium ores, though gold telluride was never actually found nearby.
