Rochelle Railfan Park - Illinois, USA

Long freight trains rumble across the diamond at Rochelle Railroad Park, in northern Illinois, where the main lines of the BNSF and Union Pacific railroads cross each other at the same level in the middle of town.

The park was dedicated on August 30, 1998, and is said to be the first park in the country built just for people to watch working trains. Between 80 and 90 trains pass through Rochelle in a typical 24 hours.

Rochelle lies about 80 miles (130 km) west of Chicago. The railroad reached the town in 1854, when it was still called Lane, and the BNSF line followed in 1870, crossing the older route right where the park stands today.

Did You Know? Rochelle is nicknamed the Hub City, because its railroads and highways spread out from the town like the spokes of a wagon wheel.
