Friday Harbor Airport - San Juan Island, Washington, USA

Small planes land and take off on the single runway at Friday Harbor Airport, just southwest of the town center on San Juan Island, Washington, and this camera watches them taxi past under the often cloudy Pacific Northwest skies.


The Port of Friday Harbor owns the airport, and its asphalt runway is 3,402 feet (1,037 m) long. About 151 aircraft are based here, almost all single-engine planes, plus a handful of twins and helicopters.


In 2016 it handled about 123 flights a day. Around a quarter are air taxis and small commuter flights, which link the island with Seattle, Victoria in Canada, Bellingham, Anacortes and the other San Juan Islands.


Did You Know? The airport sits just 113 feet (34 m) above sea level, on an island you can only reach by ferry, boat or plane.
