Skomer Island Puffin Bank - Wales (Cam 2)
This second live camera on Skomer Island gives a closer, more intimate view of the puffin colony on the North Haven slopes, with birds filling the entire frame at the height of the breeding season. The up close angle captures the full character of these birds, the squabbles, the courtship billing, and the constant coming and going from burrows just metres from the lens.
This feed also captures the remarkable after dark activity on Skomer, when the Manx Shearwaters return from their ocean feeding trips and land in their thousands across the island, navigating to their burrows in complete darkness using sound alone. The contrast between the busy daytime puffin activity and the chaotic nocturnal shearwater landings makes this one of the more varied wildlife cameras on the site.
Did You Know? Skomer Island has been a National Nature Reserve since 1959 and access is strictly limited to protect the wildlife, with only 250 day visitors permitted per day during the season. The island has no permanent human population, meaning the wildlife outnumbers humans by several million to one for most of the year.
