The United States Capitol dome rises above Capitol Hill in this 24/7 live feed from Washington D.C., with one feature that sets it apart from every other Capitol camera online. When the Senate is called to order, the stream switches automatically to the live Senate floor, with a "Senate Floor Live" alert appearing on screen. During recess it returns to the exterior dome view with a countdown to the next scheduled session.

Both feeds come directly from the Senate Recording Studio and are public domain works of the US federal government. The Capitol has stood on this site since 1800 and the Senate chamber inside has been the setting for every major constitutional moment in American history, from impeachment trials and Supreme Court confirmations to war declarations and election certifications.

Did You Know? The cast iron dome visible in this feed was not part of the original Capitol building. Construction began in 1855 to replace a smaller wooden dome, and remarkably the work continued throughout the Civil War on the direct orders of President Lincoln, who stated that completing the dome would send a signal that the Union itself would be completed. It was finished in 1866.
