Taoyuan International Airport Runway - Taiwan

This camera sits right beside a runway at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (臺灣桃園國際機場), the island's main gateway to the world, so the big jets pass up close and it's easy to pick out the airline colors and aircraft types.

Planes from across Asia, Europe and North America roar in and out day and night, from wide-body airliners touching down to heavy cargo jets lumbering into the sky.

Taoyuan ranks among the ten busiest cargo airports in the world, so plenty of those jets are carrying freight rather than passengers. At night the runway is lined with lights, and in the summer typhoon season, flights can be grounded for hours by wind and heavy rain.

Did You Know? When it opened in 1979, this airport was called Chiang Kai-shek International Airport. It was renamed Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport in 2006.
