Dajia Riverside Park - Taipei, Taiwan
This 4K live camera from Taipei City's Zhongshan Pumping Station looks across Dajia Riverside Park on the banks of the Keelung River, with the Grand Hotel Taipei rising prominently on the wooded hillside to the left. The Grand Hotel is one of the most recognisable buildings in Taiwan, a 14-storey structure built in traditional Chinese palatial architecture with a distinctive red and gold pagoda roof, opened in 1973 and listed among the world's largest Chinese classical buildings.
The Keelung River visible in this feed is a 86-kilometre tributary of the Tamsui River running through central Taipei, and Dajia Riverside Park stretches along its southern bank as one of the city's primary recreational green spaces. Each year during the Dragon Boat Festival the park hosts the Taipei International Dragon Boat Championship, one of the largest dragon boat competitions in Asia, visible in full from this camera position.
Taipei sits in a basin surrounded by mountains in northern Taiwan, with a metropolitan population of 7 million people. The Miramar Ferris Wheel, one of the other landmarks visible from this camera on clear days, stands 55 metres tall in the Zhongshan District shopping complex 2 kilometres from this position.
Did You Know? The Grand Hotel Taipei contains a network of secret escape tunnels built beneath the building during the Cold War era for use by government officials in the event of an attack on Taiwan.
