Skomer Island Puffin Colony - Wales (Cam 1)

This live camera watches over a puffin colony on the clifftops of Skomer Island, a National Nature Reserve off the Pembrokeshire coast in Wales managed by the Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales. The grassy slopes visible in the feed are home to one of the largest Atlantic Puffin colonies in the world, with over 40,000 puffins returning to the island each spring to breed.

Skomer is also home to the largest Manx Shearwater colony on earth, with an estimated 316,000 pairs nesting in burrows across the island. After dark the shearwaters return from their ocean feeding grounds, filling the night air with an extraordinary wailing call that has startled many a first time visitor. Razorbills, guillemots, grey seals, and a remarkable variety of other seabirds share the island throughout the season.

Did You Know? Skomer's puffins spend the entire winter at sea, returning to the same burrow on the island each spring with the same partner. Some of the puffins nesting here are over 30 years old and have been returning to Skomer annually for decades, making the island one of the most studied seabird colonies in Europe.
