Polzeath Beach - Cornwall, UK
Wide, golden and facing straight into the Atlantic, Polzeath is one of North Cornwall's best-known surfing beaches. The camera looks out from Polzeath House across the full sweep of the bay, with Pentire Point visible on the headland to the right and the waves rolling in from the open ocean to the left.
The beach sits on the north Cornish coast between the Camel Estuary and the village of Trebetherick, in an area that has drawn visitors for generations. It faces northwest, which means it catches Atlantic swells reliably throughout the year, making it one of the more consistent surf spots on the peninsula. The wide flat sand at low tide also makes it a favourite with families.
The camera captures conditions live throughout the day, showing the changing light, tides and weather that make this stretch of coastline so different from one hour to the next.
Did You Know? The poet John Betjeman, who later became Britain's Poet Laureate, spent his childhood summers in Trebetherick, the village immediately behind this beach. He wrote about Polzeath and the surrounding coastline throughout his life and is buried just over the dunes at St Enodoc's Church, a short walk from the water's edge.
