Loch Arkaig Osprey Nest - Scottish Highlands, UK (Cam 2)
This second live camera at Loch Arkaig Pine Forest offers a different angle on the osprey nesting site within this ancient Caledonian woodland, managed by the Woodland Trust in the Scottish Highlands. The wider mountain panorama visible behind the nest gives this feed a particularly dramatic Highland atmosphere.
The Loch Arkaig nest has become one of the most followed wildlife cameras in Scotland, with the pair returning each spring after their winter migration to West Africa. The Caledonian pine forest surrounding the site is itself a rare and threatened habitat, one of the last remnants of the ancient woodland that once covered much of Scotland.
Did You Know? The Loch Arkaig area has strong connections to Bonnie Prince Charlie, who hid in the surrounding hills after the Battle of Culloden in 1746 and is said to have used the area as a refuge while evading British forces. A Spanish treasure ship reportedly sank in Loch Arkaig during this period, and the gold, known as the Loch Arkaig Treasure, was never fully recovered.
