Peregrine Falcon Nest Box - Orange, New South Wales, Australia

Peregrine falcons have been nesting high on a concrete water tower in Orange, New South Wales, since 2008, in a box about 115 feet (35 m) up in the tower's south window.

The resident female, Diamond, has held the tower since 2015, and in 2025 she took a new partner, a young male named Gimbir. Down Under the seasons are flipped, so the eggs usually arrive in late August, fluffy white chicks hatch in early October, and the young fledge by mid-November.

That's when the box is at its busiest, full of feeding, wing flapping and the odd squabble. Even outside the breeding season, the falcons still drop by to rest, preen and eat their catch.
