Fisherman's Village - Bophut, Koh Samui, Thailand

Fisherman's Village is the old heart of Bophut (บ่อผุด), on the north shore of Koh Samui, a single street of two-story Chinese-Thai shophouses that runs alongside the beach and fills with diners, shoppers and strolling visitors from late afternoon.

It began as the island's Chinese fishing settlement, and its timber shophouses are some of the few buildings on Samui that date from before tourism arrived. Today most of them hold restaurants, bars and small shops instead of fishing businesses.

Every Friday evening the street closes to traffic for the Walking Street market, its busiest night of the week, when stalls sell clothes, cocktails and street food. Bophut also has its own pier, with ferries running across to Koh Phangan.
