Jellyfish Exhibit - Monterey Bay Aquarium, CA, USA

Jellyfish pulse and drift through softly lit blue water in this exhibit at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, on Cannery Row in Monterey, California, their long, trailing tentacles flowing behind them as they glide past the glass.

The aquarium has been raising jellyfish since 1985. Its first jelly exhibition, Planet of the Jellies, opened in 1992, and a permanent jellyfish gallery followed in 1996. Today its jellyfish collection is said to be the largest in the world.

The aquarium opened on October 20, 1984, in the old Hovden sardine cannery, and it now welcomes about 2 million visitors a year. Its Kelp Forest exhibit was the first to keep a living kelp forest indoors.

Did You Know? Jellyfish have no brain, no heart and no bones, and their bodies are about 95 percent water.
