Hangang River & Banpo Bridge - Seoul, South Korea
This live camera looks north across the Han River from an elevated position in the Seocho district, taking in Banpo Bridge in the foreground and the Seoul skyline stretching across the far bank. The Han River runs 514 kilometres through the Korean Peninsula and bisects Seoul across a width of roughly 1 kilometre at this point, with 31 bridges crossing it within the city boundaries. The blue-lit structure visible to the lower left is Seoul Olympic Park's Handball Gymnasium, built for the 1988 Summer Olympics which Seoul hosted across 16 days in September of that year.
Banpo Bridge, crossing the river in the foreground, is a double-deck structure carrying road traffic on both levels and is best known for the Moonlight Rainbow Fountain installed along both sides of its upper deck. The fountain runs 570 metres in total length, holds the Guinness World Record for the world's longest bridge fountain, and uses 380 nozzles to project 190 tonnes of Han River water per minute in choreographed displays set to music. The arched bridge visible further upstream with orange lighting is Dongjakdaegyo, while the cable-stayed structure beyond it is Banpodaegyo, one of the river's most photographed crossings at night.
Seoul's Han River parks, which line both banks along 40 kilometres of riverfront, draw over 70 million visitors per year and serve as the primary public green space for a metropolitan area of 25 million people. The Seocho and Banpo riverside areas visible on the south bank in this feed are part of the Banpo Hangang Park, which covers 825,000 square metres and includes cafes, cycling paths, and floating islands directly beneath the bridge.
