Launched in 2011 as a sister channel to Al Arabiya, it operates under the MBC Group, one of the Middle East's largest media conglomerates, and focuses specifically on rolling live coverage and in-depth reporting of political developments across the Arab world and beyond.

While Al Arabiya covers the broader news spectrum including business, culture, and general affairs, Al Hadath is designed for continuous breaking news coverage, with a network of correspondents stationed in capital cities across the globe delivering real-time updates as events unfold. The channel completed its relocation from Dubai to Riyadh in 2025, part of Saudi Arabia's broader push to establish the capital as a major international media and business hub.
