Zócalo Constitution Plaza - Mexico City, Mexico (Cam 2)
This second live camera at the Zócalo offers a wider panoramic angle across the Plaza de la Constitución, capturing the full scale of one of the largest city squares on earth. When the square fills for major events, concerts, or national celebrations, this wider view makes the sheer scale of the crowds genuinely jaw dropping.
The Zócalo sits at the centre of Mexico City's UNESCO listed historic centre, built directly over the ruins of Tenochtitlan, the Aztec capital destroyed by the Spanish in 1521. Archaeological excavations beneath the square and surrounding streets continue to this day, with new discoveries still being made under one of the world's most densely populated city centres.
Did You Know? Mexico City is one of the few capital cities in the world built on a lake. Tenochtitlan was constructed on an island in Lake Texcoco, and the colonial city built over it has been slowly sinking ever since, with some parts of the historic centre having dropped by up to 10 metres over the past century.
