Hippo and Crocodile River Cam - Laikipia, Kenya
This live camera streams from the Ewaso Ng'iro River at Mpala Research Centre in Laikipia County, central Kenya, looking out over wildlife corridors on both banks where elephant, giraffe, hippo, crocodile, and kudu pass through daily on their way to the water.
Mpala Research Centre is a working scientific field station run jointly by Princeton University, the Smithsonian Institution, and several other leading research organisations. It covers 48,000 acres of Kenyan bush and has been the base for hundreds of wildlife and conservation studies over the past three decades, making it one of the most scientifically significant private land holdings in Africa.
The camera sits upriver from the main watering hole, giving views across Tranquility Glade and Basking Beach, two wildlife hotspots where animals gather in the early morning and late afternoon.
Did You Know? The Laikipia Plateau, where Mpala sits, is home to the second largest population of elephants in Kenya after Tsavo, as well as one of the last remaining strongholds of the critically endangered Grevy's zebra, the largest wild equid on earth, with fewer than 3,000 remaining in the wild.
