Velké Náměstí Square - Kroměříž, Czechia
This camera overlooks Velké náměstí, the Great Square at the centre of Kroměříž, a small historic city in the Zlín Region of Moravia. The square is lined with colourful baroque and Renaissance townhouses, with the tower of Kroměříž Archbishop's Palace visible rising behind the rooftops at the northern end.
Kroměříž is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognised for its remarkably well-preserved baroque episcopal residence and gardens. The Archbishop's Palace and its surrounding grounds have remained largely intact since the seventeenth century, which is unusual for a site of this scale anywhere in central Europe.
The square itself functions as the social and commercial centre of the city, with café seating visible along the right-hand side of the frame and a central fountain adding to the classic central European market square feel. Market activity and local events fill the space regularly throughout the year.
Did You Know? Kroměříž was used as a filming location for the 1984 Miloš Forman film Amadeus. The Archbishop's Palace stood in for the imperial court in Vienna, and several key scenes were shot in the palace's grand ceremonial rooms.
