Matsuyama Airport Apron - Ehime, Japan
Planes park and turn around at the gates of Matsuyama Airport (松山空港), on the coast of the Seto Inland Sea about 3.5 miles (5.6 km) west-southwest of central Matsuyama, the largest city on the island of Shikoku.
It began in 1941 as an Imperial Japanese Navy airfield and now has one runway 8,202 feet (2,500 m) long. In 2018 it handled about 3.2 million passengers, the most of any airport in the Chugoku-Shikoku region.
Besides flights across Japan, it has international routes to Busan, Seoul and Taipei, which restarted after the pandemic. Many visitors come for Matsuyama Castle and Dogo Onsen, one of Japan's most famous hot spring towns.
Did You Know? International flights at Matsuyama stopped in 2020 and came back in December 2022, starting with a charter flight from Ho Chi Minh City.
