Levi Ski Resort Zero Point - Sirkka, Lapland, Finland
This camera looks out over the Zero Point hub at Levi Ski Resort in Sirkka, Finnish Lapland, showing the central village area with hotel buildings, a small lake, and the pine forest that surrounds the resort. Zero Point is the main base for the Front Slopes, where ski passes, rental, ski school, and lifts are all gathered in one spot.
Levi is the largest ski resort in Finland, with 43 slopes and 26 lifts spread across a fell that rises to 531 metres. It sits well above the Arctic Circle at 68 degrees north, which means polar night in December and January and near-continuous daylight in summer, when the resort shifts to hiking and other outdoor activity.
In summer the camera shows the resort in its off-season character, quiet and green, a completely different landscape from the snow-covered version that attracts skiers from across Scandinavia and beyond each winter.
Did You Know? Levi hosts a stop on the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup circuit each November, making it one of the earliest races of the season. The slalom event is held in the dark under floodlights, which combined with the Arctic setting makes it one of the more unusual races on the calendar.
