Sea Otter Habitat - Seattle Aquarium, USA
Three rescued sea otters make their home in this live habitat at the Seattle Aquarium on the waterfront in Seattle, Washington. Mishka, Sekiu and Ruby each arrived here through different circumstances, but all three were deemed non-releasable after rehabilitation and now live here as ambassadors for their species.
The newest arrival is Ruby, who joined in November 2025 after being found stranded as a newborn pup weighing just 1.9 pounds in 2015. Mishka was caught in a fishing net off Alaska as a young pup and rescued by the Alaska SeaLife Center, while Sekiu was born right here at the aquarium in 2012. Feeding time is at 4:45pm Pacific and is worth tuning in for.
On occasion the northern fur seals that also live at the aquarium may appear in the habitat instead of the otters. The animals are trained to move between enclosures to allow for cleaning, so a surprise fur seal appearance is always possible.
Did You Know? Sea otters are a keystone species, meaning their presence has an outsized effect on the entire ecosystem around them. Without sea otters, sea urchin populations explode and devastate kelp forests. Their recovery along the Pacific coast has directly restored vast stretches of underwater habitat.
