Weymouth Beach - Dorset, UK
From this elevated position on the Esplanade, the camera looks across the main beach and into the wide arc of Weymouth Bay, with the Weymouth Wheel dominating the right side of the frame. Alexandra Gardens funfair is visible to the left, and a beach volleyball court sits in the middle of the sand below. Dog walkers are a regular feature on this stretch, as it doubles as the designated dog walking area for the beach.
Weymouth is a seaside town on the Jurassic Coast in Dorset, one of England's most visited stretches of coastline and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The bay is naturally sheltered, which gives it calmer water than much of the surrounding coastline and makes it popular with families and watersports enthusiasts throughout the summer months.
The camera is hosted by Cactus Tearooms on the Esplanade and runs 24/7. Crowds build noticeably from late morning on sunny days, and the funfair tends to be busiest on weekend afternoons.
Did You Know? The statue visible in the bottom right corner of the frame is of King George III, who began visiting Weymouth regularly from 1789 and is widely credited with turning it into one of Britain's first popular seaside resorts. He reportedly bathed in the sea here to music played by a band hidden inside a nearby bathing machine.
