Fukuoka Airport - Fukuoka, Japan (Cam 1)

Jets roll past this camera on their way to and from the runway at Fukuoka Airport (福岡空港), on Japan's southern island of Kyushu, with domestic flights and international airliners from across Asia sharing the same busy stretch of tarmac.

The main runway is 9,186 feet (2,800 m) long, and for decades it was the airport's only one, even as traffic grew to about 25 million passengers a year, making it Japan's fourth-busiest passenger airport.

Units of Japan's Self-Defense Forces are also based here, commanded from nearby Kasuga Air Base, so military aircraft sometimes appear between the airliners. The city center is only a short subway ride away.

Did You Know? Before it was a civil airport, Fukuoka was known as Mushiroda Airfield, built by the Imperial Japanese Army Air Force in 1944.
