Plaza de la Independencia Clock Tower - Pachuca, Mexico
This camera looks out over Plaza de la Independencia in Pachuca de Soto, the capital of Hidalgo state, with the city's iconic clock tower filling the centre of the frame. The tower was built in the early twentieth century to mark the centenary of Mexican independence and stands around 40 metres tall, making it one of the most recognisable landmarks in central Mexico.
The square below is a working public space, busy with locals and market activity throughout the day. Surrounding streets show a mix of colonial-era architecture and everyday city life, with the hills of Pachuca visible in the background giving a clear sense of the city's mountainous setting.
Pachuca sits at around 2,400 metres above sea level, which makes it one of the highest state capitals in Mexico. The city's mild climate means the square is active year-round, with the camera giving a particularly clear view of how the light changes through the day.
Did You Know? Pachuca is widely credited as the birthplace of football in Mexico. Cornish miners who came to work the region's silver mines in the late 1800s brought the game with them, and the club they founded, Pachuca FC, is the oldest football club in the country, established in 1901.
