Mpala Waterhole - Laikipia, Kenya
This live camera overlooks the main waterhole at Mpala Research Centre in the highlands of Laikipia, Kenya, a different vantage point to the river camera also streaming from this remarkable 48,000 acre reserve.
The waterhole draws an exceptional variety of wildlife including elephant, hippo, giraffe, Grevy's zebra, gazelle, crocodile, and leopard, all recorded visiting regularly. Grevy's zebra in particular are a highlight here, as Laikipia holds one of the last significant populations of this critically endangered species, distinguishable from common zebra by their narrower stripes and larger rounded ears.
Did You Know? Grevy's zebra is the largest wild equid on earth and one of the most endangered, with fewer than 3,000 remaining in the wild. Laikipia is now one of their last strongholds, and Mpala Research Centre has been central to global efforts to understand and protect the species.
