Safarihoek Viewing Hide - Etosha Heights, Namibia

Camera byAfricam↗

Few cams put you this close. Safarihoek's viewing hide sits right at the water's edge, so when a herd of elephants arrives, it fills the whole screen, with trunks splashing, babies jostling for space and big bulls taking their time.

The waterhole lies in Etosha Heights Private Reserve, a wild stretch of savannah, mopane woodland and dolomite hills on the southwestern edge of Etosha National Park in northern Namibia. In the dry season water is scarce, so almost everything comes to drink.

Giraffes, zebras, oryx, springbok and kudu all come in, and lions and hyenas tend to arrive after dusk. Oryx can actually go a long time without drinking, getting much of their water from the plants they eat, but they still come in when water is this close.

Did You Know? Etosha means “great white place” in the Oshiwambo language. It’s named after Etosha Pan, a huge salt flat so big it can be seen from space.
