Lyme Regis Harbour - Dorset, UK
This live camera looks over Lyme Regis harbour and beach, one of the most beloved seaside destinations on the Jurassic Coast in Dorset. The colourful beach huts, stacked kayaks, and the sheltered sandy beach make this one of the more visually lively coastal cameras in the UK, particularly busy on summer weekends when the town fills with visitors.
Lyme Regis sits on the Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site stretching 95 miles along the coastline of Dorset and East Devon. The town is one of the best places in the world for fossil hunting, with ammonites, ichthyosaurs, and plesiosaur remains regularly discovered in the cliffs and on the beach below.
The harbour's famous Cobb, a curved stone breakwater that has sheltered the town since the 13th century, sits just out of frame and is one of the most photographed harbour structures in England.
Did You Know? Lyme Regis is where Mary Anning, one of the most important fossil hunters in history, made her discoveries in the early 1800s including the first correctly identified ichthyosaur skeleton, found when she was just 12 years old. Her work fundamentally changed scientific understanding of prehistoric life, yet she was largely excluded from the scientific establishment of her time because she was a woman.
