Empire State Building Observation Deck - New York, USA
This live camera looks straight down from the observation deck of the Empire State Building, 443 metres above Midtown Manhattan, with the city grid spreading out in every direction below. The feed captures both the view across New York and the visitors on the deck itself, a constant stream of people from every corner of the world taking in one of the most famous urban panoramas on earth.
The Empire State Building was completed in 1931 after just 410 days of construction, a remarkable feat that saw workers erecting an average of four and a half floors per week at its peak. It held the title of world's tallest building for 40 years until the World Trade Center surpassed it in 1971.
Over 4 million people visit the observation deck each year, making it one of the most visited tourist attractions in the United States.
Did You Know? The Empire State Building's spire was originally designed as a mooring mast for transatlantic airships, with a gangway for passengers to disembark directly onto the 102nd floor. The idea was abandoned after just a handful of attempts, when it became clear that wind conditions at that height made docking virtually impossible.
