St. George Street - St. Augustine, Florida, USA
This camera looks down St. George Street in the heart of St. Augustine's historic district, one of the most visited pedestrian streets in Florida. The street is lined with colonial-era buildings housing shops, galleries, bakeries, and restaurants, with the Colonial Quarter living history museum visible at the base of the camera position.
St. Augustine was founded by Spanish colonists in 1565, making it the oldest continuously occupied European settlement in the United States. St. George Street served as the main thoroughfare of the Spanish colonial town and has remained the social and commercial spine of the city ever since.
The street is pedestrianised and busy throughout the day, with the camera giving a clear view of how the crowd ebbs and flows from morning through to evening. Florida's afternoon rain showers pass through regularly, and the street continues to hum with activity even in wet weather as visitors shelter under umbrellas and café awnings.
Did You Know? St. Augustine predates the Mayflower landing at Plymouth Rock by 55 years, yet it receives far less attention in American history education than the New England settlements. The city's 450-year-old street grid, including St. George Street itself, still largely follows the original Spanish colonial layout.
