Cowes Harbour and the Solent - Isle of Wight, UK

From Cowes, on the north coast of the Isle of Wight, this camera looks out over the busy waters of the Solent, full of white sails and rolling waves, with big ships passing on the horizon.

Cowes is one of the most famous sailing towns in the world, and on a sunny weekend the water fills with yachts, while ferries and cruise ships pass by on their way to and from Southampton.

Every August the town hosts a huge regatta, when hundreds of racing boats crowd the water and the whole place fills with sailors. Across the River Medina is East Cowes, joined to the town by a little chain ferry known as the Floating Bridge.

Did You Know? The Cowes Week regatta was first held in 1826, making it one of the oldest sailing races in the world.
