Philippine Coral Reef - California Academy of Sciences, USA
This camera looks into the Philippine Coral Reef tank at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park, one of the deepest living coral exhibits in the world. Hundreds of fish from the reefs and mangroves of the Philippines move through the tank continuously, with coral structures covering the full height of the curved glass wall.
The tank is part of a broader academy that houses an aquarium, planetarium, natural history museum, and four-storey living rainforest all under a single roof in Golden Gate Park. Academy divers enter the tank daily at 11:30am and 1:30pm PST to feed the fish and answer questions from visitors watching through the glass.
The Philippines sits within the Coral Triangle, the most biodiverse marine region on earth, making this tank both a spectacular exhibit and an active scientific research environment.
Did You Know? The Coral Triangle, which includes Philippine waters, contains over 75% of all known coral species and is home to more than 3,000 species of fish. It covers just 1.6% of the world's ocean surface but supports the marine food supply of around 120 million people.
