Alpaca Farm - Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, USA

Alpacas gather beside an open-sided wooden shelter on Martha’s Vineyard, with fenced paddocks stretching toward a wooded boundary. The view follows the herd around feeding areas and across the enclosure, bringing their long necks, thick coats and curious faces close as animals approach the fence.

The farm sits along Head of the Pond Road on the eastern side of the island, away from its busy waterfronts and beaches. Here, pasture and woodland provide a rural setting for animals raised for their fleece, adding a different scene to an island often associated with sailing and summer visitors.

Daily routines carry the herd between outdoor grazing areas and the barn, so the enclosure can be quiet when the animals are elsewhere. Changing foliage and seasonal light frame the paddocks throughout the year. More island information is available through Go Martha’s Vineyard.

Did You Know? Alpacas have soft, padded feet with two toenails on each foot rather than hard hooves.
