Table Mountain and Table Bay - Cape Town, South Africa
This live camera looks south across Table Bay from Milnerton beach, with one of the most iconic views in Africa stretching across the full frame. Table Mountain dominates the left of the shot, with Lion's Head visible to its right and the Cape Town city bowl nestled between them along the shoreline. On clear days Robben Island is visible in the bay to the right.
The view changes dramatically throughout the day, from misty morning light over the mountain to the famous Cape sunset that turns the whole scene golden in the early evening. The white cloud that regularly forms over the flat top of Table Mountain is known locally as the Tablecloth, caused by moist southeasterly winds rising and cooling as they hit the mountain.
Did You Know? Table Mountain is one of the oldest mountains on earth at around 600 million years old, predating the Himalayas, the Alps, and the Rockies by hundreds of millions of years. It is also one of the most botanically diverse places on the planet, with more plant species on its slopes than in the entire United Kingdom.
