Jurassic Coast - West Bay, Dorset, UK

Rolling fields lead toward West Bay and its golden cliffs, with the English Channel stretching beyond the rooftops. From this elevated viewpoint near Eype, grassland and hedgerows fill the foreground while the coastline draws the eye eastward beneath a wide sky of shifting clouds.

West Bay sits at the mouth of the River Brit, south of Bridport on Dorset’s Jurassic Coast. Its harbor lies between beaches and cliffs, linking the town’s maritime character with a landscape shaped by ancient seas. The distinctive rock layers form part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Sunlight changes the color of the cliffs and fields throughout the day, while mist and rain can soften the distant coastline. The South West Coast Path passes nearby, connecting Eype with West Bay and continuing along the shore through a succession of headlands, beaches and coastal villages.

Did You Know? Despite its name, the Jurassic Coast contains rocks from three geological periods: the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous.
