Eagle Chair - Cypress Mountain, British Columbia, Canada
Chairlift cables descend between dense evergreens at Cypress Mountain, with forested slopes rising across the valley beyond. In winter, snow coats the branches and open runs beneath the lift, while low clouds can drift across the mountainside and obscure the more distant ridges from view.
Above West Vancouver in British Columbia, the ski area sits among the North Shore Mountains, where steep terrain and coastal weather shape the landscape. The view combines the working chairlift with the surrounding forest, revealing how ski runs cut narrow openings through the otherwise wooded slopes.
Winter brings skiers and snowboarders when the lift is operating, followed by quieter periods outside the snow season. As snow retreats, the ground and vegetation beneath the chairs become visible again. Rain, fog and fresh snowfall can transform the scene, changing both its colors and the distance visible.
Did You Know? Cypress Mountain hosted the freestyle skiing and snowboarding competitions at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics.
