Red Pandas - Trevor-Lovejoy Zoo, Millbrook, New York, USA

Red pandas cross wooden bridges and climb among tree trunks in a leafy outdoor habitat at Trevor-Lovejoy Zoo. Their reddish coats and ringed tails stand out against the branches, while raised walkways provide routes above the ground and places to pause between exploring, feeding and resting.

Set on the grounds of Millbrook School in New York, the zoo brings animal care and conservation into a school environment. The red panda enclosure combines trees, platforms and sheltered spaces, giving these forest mammals opportunities to climb and rest above the leaf-covered habitat floor.

In the wild, red pandas inhabit mountain forests in Asia, where bamboo forms much of their diet. Their long tails help with balance as they move through trees, a skill reflected in the climbing routes here. Quiet stretches are part of the view, especially when the animals settle out of sight.

Did You Know? Red pandas belong to their own family, Ailuridae, rather than the bear family that includes giant pandas.
