Main Street Sturgis - South Dakota, USA
This live camera looks down Main Street in Sturgis, a small town in the Black Hills of South Dakota that transforms every August into one of the largest motorcycle gatherings on earth. For most of the year this is a quiet stretch of shops and bars with a few thousand residents. During the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally it becomes a different world entirely.
The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally has been running since 1938 and now regularly draws over 500,000 riders to this single street over ten days each August, making it one of the largest annual events in the United States by attendance. The corner of Main Street and Harley Davidson Way, where this camera sits, is the absolute epicentre of the action.
Did You Know? The first Sturgis rally in 1938 was organised by a local racing club called the Jackpine Gypsies and attracted just nine competitors. It has grown by roughly 55,000 times since then, with peak years drawing close to 700,000 people to a town with a permanent population of under 7,000.
